Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Unit Coordinator is primarily responsible for scheduling appointments, assisting with scheduling and creating daily schedules, ensures supplies are ordered and in stock. Assists with the overall administrative functions of the department as it relates to the unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains and updates charts (including chart tear-down), medical records, and formats any new paperwork as needed, per Eating Recovery Center Policies and Procedures and within HIPAA regulations.
• Performs duties as designated under the supervision of the RN on duty/Director of Nursing.
• Operates copier, facsimile, computer and scanner as needed for staff projects.
• Assists in communication between disciplines to update all involved parties through phone, computer, verbal, and written means.
• Completes administrative projects as directed by staff when appropriate.
• Answers telephones and directs calls to appropriate extensions as needed.
• Composes and types routine correspondence.
• Organizes and maintains file system, and files correspondence and other records.
• Provides direct patient care including but not limited to: aiding with bathroom breaks and fresh air breaks, coordination of groups and inside appointments, reinforcement of rules and boundaries on the unit.
• Prepares outgoing mail and correspondence, including e-mail and faxes. Reads and routes incoming mail.
• Maintains organization and beautification of nursing station and surrounding areas.
• Weekly (some of these duties may or may not occur in any given week)
• Accompanies patients to Internist office and other outside facilities for appointments as appropriate.
• Schedules outside appointments with providers and diagnostic testing facilities.
• Coordinates transportation and staff to accompany inpatients to such appointments.
• Orders medical supplies for inpatient unit. Maintains supplies, and arranges for equipment maintenance.
• Obtains, transcribes and communicates pre-admission orders for new patients arriving on the unit.
• Prints and charts patient history and physical dictations.
• Upon new patient admission puts name on patient door, takes photo and puts a copy in the chart and on patient ID wristband. Helps take off admissions standing orders for new patient.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Associates Degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
• or six month to one year related experience and/or training
• or equivalent combination of education and experience.
