Job Description

Key Objective: 

The qualified individual will perform quality inspection activities to determine product compliance with defined quality requirements, including analysis and interpretation of results. Support productivity, quality, cost improvement goals, and new project implementation related to welding, metallurgy, and operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on support through troubleshooting welding process/quality/safety issues on equipment, processes, and tooling and taking the necessary actions to correct them. 

  • Oversee the qualification of welders and welding operations. 

  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.

  •  Procure or provide support for the procurement of major and minor pieces of welding capital equipment. 

  • Coordinate and support with other division functions (i.e. Production, Quality, Facilities, Health and Safety, Environment, Product Design) and outside contractors and customers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document quality inspection activities

  • Provide guidance to others in the performance of quality inspection activities

  • Provide guidance and/or participate in the fabrication and assembly of products to ensure quality requirements can be satisfied

  • Prepare and complete quality and manufacturing related documentation

  • Ensure material identification and traceability is maintained, including tagging of items and segregating nonconforming items

  • Assist customer representatives to complete quality inspection activities as needed

  • Participate in the resolution of product non conformance

  • Work with other departments in the proper planning, performance, and documentation of inspections

  • Assist in developing, modifying, and assessing the effectiveness of inspection procedures

  • Manage the Quality System and ensure company compliance with such

  • Support the ISO Certification process

  • Ensure incoming materials are inspected per drawings and documentation is submitted to Purchasing as accepted/rejected

  • Coordinate steel inspection with other Welding Inspectors as applicable

  • Work with Project Management on new project implementation related to welding, metallurgy, and operations and make recommendations for cost savings.

  • Oversee the qualification of welders and welding operations. 

 

Job Requirements

  • A current American Welding Society (AWS) CWI certification. Sr. CWI preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Metallurgical Engineering preferred) and a minimum of 2 years CWI experience in structural steel fabrication/manufacturing environment; a strong background in steel fabrication experience will be considered. 

  • Expert knowledge of welding techniques, terminology and requirements. 

  • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement program and procedures preferred.

  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be analytical and detail oriented.

  • Must be team-oriented
