Job Description

Kaplan Test Prep is looking for an Associate Psychometrician to join the Learning Science team to provide operational support for the delivery, maintenance and expansion of existing testing products. The position will primarily focus on developing infrastructure and standardized operating procedures for internal services to content and business units in areas such as, but not limited to:

  • item analyses, field test evaluations
  • test construction
  • test form assembly
  • algorithm implementation
  • scaling
  • norming
  • item banking
  • content management
  • asset integration
  • Item Response Theory calibrations
  • descriptive and inferential statistical modeling, etc.

The position will require writing of technical documentation (such as technical memorandums and manuals), training materials, business presentations, as well as participating in the designing, implementing and coordinating psychometric investigations (such as field tests, research studies, ad hoc analyses, etc). Qualified candidates will need to be able to work under tight time constraints, multitasking across multiple deliverable.


  • 0-2 years


  • Proficient in R (including R Markdown, Shiny, etc.)
  • Experience with IRT and CTT, knowledge of computerized adaptive testing strongly encouraged


Preferred candidates should have a Ph.D. in psychometrics, educational measurement, quantitative psychology, statistics, or related field, with a strong independent programming background in R. Basic working knowledge of C (C++, C#) code would be helpful, but is not required.

Related Field Experience:

Prior employments, internships / externships as well as graduate coursework in general psychometric theory, statistics, classical and modern test theory will be considered. Moreover, qualified candidates should have a demonstrated record of excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work competently, effectively and seamlessly as part of a large multi-work stream team.
