Job Description



Accountable for all manufacturing operations. This includes coordinating, managing and allocating multi-functional resources (e.g., maintenance, quality) in order to achieve the safest, highest quality scheduled output at or below operating cost targets.  The Operations Manager also implements policies and procedures, coordinates with leaders from other departments and interacts with higher management.  The individual in this role must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment that is subject to long hours including evenings and on-call status. 


  • Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records.
  • Recommend procedures for facility or equipment maintenance or modification.
  • Initiate or coordinate inventory or cost control programs.
  • Create, develop and sustain a “can-do" climate and high levels of frequent communication, cooperation, rewards, training and mutual support among departments.
  • Institute employee suggestion or involvement programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the quality control field, relying on current literature pertaining to materials use, technological advances, or statistical studies.
  • Review plans and confer with research or support staff to develop new products or processes.
  • Develop partnerships with other operational functions (i.e. maintenance or human resources) to ensure human capital, equipment and production process are used in the most effective/efficient manner to meet or exceed manufacturing targets.
  • Recommend and/or manages continuous improvement in a way that engages employees and functional partners in systematic, effective and collaborative manner.
  • Spends approximately 80% of time on the production floor engaging with employees and overseeing plant operations
  • Supports safety program to ensure operations personnel are in compliance with federal/state and company policies and procedures.
  • Optimizes production of existing products and provides expertise in the area of new product development.
  • Participates in emergency and crisis management teams.
  • Ensures all aspects of plant KPI’S are being reviewed and communicated to operations team and recommends ways to improve.
  • Manage direct reports and provide leadership and guidance in their professional and personal development.
  • Drives Food Safety with supervisors and managers to ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 - Section 110.

  • Ability to perform physical activities as outlined in the attached Physical Demands section of this position description.
  • Manage budget, expenses and P&L responsibilities effectively. 
  • Cultivate and maintain a relationship with cross functional partners in plant maintenance, planning, safety, quality and human resources.  Foster an understanding with cross functional groups to create value.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Change Management – Adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs.
  • Detail Oriented – Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.


  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a related field required.

Related Experience, Qualifications and/or Certifications:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of food/consumer goods manufacturing experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority including 3+ years of Operations management.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and standard operating procedures.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with multi-level audiences; bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred; must be willing to acquire Spanish language skills as required.

Computer Skills / Special Equipment Knowledge:

  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
